Kalfayan Galleries present the solo exhibition of Yiannis Papadopoulos titled ‘Neo Tropical’. The exhibition opening is on Thursday, 16 January 2025, 18:00 – 21.00.

 

At Yiannis Papadopoulos’ solo exhibition titled “Neo Tropical”, nature occupies the gallery space creating a meta-landscape.

 

Following the artist’s research regarding the relation between art and eco concience (“The book of Stones”, Kalfayan Galleries 2019; “_Elos”, WIELS, Brussels, 2018-residency and 2022-exhibition; “People Descended From Trees and Deer”, 8th Thessaloniki Biennale), the new series of works titled “Neo Tropical” focuses on a visual language related to the wild vegetation of the wetlands.

Artists

Yiannis Papadopoulos

Yiannis Papadopoulos (Patra, 1975) lives and works in Patra and in Antwerp. He has studied Mathematics in Patras University, Fine Arts in Athens School of Fine Arts and did his MFA at the AKV St. Joost, The Netherlands. He has received the V. Valambous Prize from Spyropoulos Foundation 2010 and was nominated for DESTE Prize 2015. His work has been supported by the Flemish Government and the Greek Ministry of Culture. In 2018 he was artist in resince at WIELS residency program. Selected exhibitions: People descended from trees and deer, 8th Thessaloniki Biennale 2023, _Elos, WIELS Brussels 2022, The Book of stones, Kalfayan Galleries, 2019, Unpacking my library, EMST 2018, Perished Sun, Kalfayan Galleries 2017, DESTE prize, Museum of Cycladic Art, 2015, The Ister, Extra City Antwerp, 2014. Since 2016 he teaches at the School of Architecture University of Patras, he is editor at OMBLOS imprint and co-editor for the art journal aporrox.
