Kalfayan Galleries are pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Edouard Sacaillan at the Athens gallery space (11 Haritos Street, Kolonaki, Athens). The opening is on Thursday, 24 January 2013, from 20.00 to 22.00.
Eroticism in art can be suggestive as in Bernini’s sculpture or Mapplethorpe’s photographs of flowers or explicit, as in antique pottery or Jeff Koons’ photographs. The exhibition at Kalfayan Galleries presents a new body of work by Edouard Sacallan in which the artist takes man’s most basic and primal of human aspects, his sexuality, as his starting point to communicate his characteristic theme of isolation and the loneliness of contemporary man. The artist’s cynicism emerges through emotionally raw imagery that focuses on the lack of communication between the figures, caught at their most intimate moments yet appearing remote and impersonal in their interactions. As the artist states, “My works are motivations and adventures, without the vulgarity of illusion and without the puritanism of iconoclasm. I have no titles for these works or inferences. It is painting which results in an image. Ten works through which I lived a few days of my life”.
The exhibition is not appropriate for young children.
